Rashford sold, Gyokeres bid, left-back deal - Man United first January transfer decided

It was a weekend to remember for Manchester United as they came out as 2-1 winners over Manchester City in dramatic fashion. After being 1-0 down going into the 83rd minute, United completed the turnaround with two late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

The win comes as a massive boost to Ruben Amorim and his squad ahead of what will be a busy festive schedule. They are back in action again on Thursday (8pm kick-off) as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Eyes will also be turning to the January transfer window, which is now just over two weeks away. After having a bit of time to assess his squad, Amorim is likely to want to bring some of his own players to the club.

The window could be one of outgoings too. Both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were left out of the squad completely for the Manchester derby, with the former in particular linked with an exit after his bombshell interview this week. I think this January will be more about outgoings at United as the club look to have a clear out of their squad, and raise funds for additions. Looking at the squad and who could leave could therefore give an indication to the areas that need strengthening.

One area that stands out to me is attacking midfield. Given the latest injury to Mason Mount, it just leaves Bruno Fernandes as the only natural option in that position. It’s an area Christian Eriksen could also play, but he looks set to leave in the summer.
