Rangers have played transfer blinder over "mountain" whose value has soared 700% - opinion

Rangers won the Premiership title last season to stop their arch-rivals from reaching 10-in-a-row and are currently one point off the top of the table and battling for another trophy this term.

A big reason behind their recent successes has been their ability to pick out gems in the transfer market to improve their starting XI and overall squad.

One of those players has been centre-back Connor Goldson, who is now reportedly set to leave the club at the end of the season on a free transfer.

With the defender’s time at Ibrox coming to an end, Rangers have pulled off an absolute blinder with him over the years.

He signed for the Scottish giants from English side Brighton in the summer of 2018 and Transfermarkt valued him at just £900k at the time.

Since joining the club, he has amassed 199 appearances for the Gers and could hit the double century when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side host Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday night. He has played 29 Premiership matches or more in every campaign leading up to the current one, highlighting how important he has been to the Light Blues over the years.

Former Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard once heaped huge praise on the defender, telling The Scotsman: “Connor has been an absolute mountain for this team, a warrior. I can’t describe to you how well he has done for this team, not just in terms of what you have seen on the pitch but also his leadership on the inside of the club and his availability every single day.”

These comments suggest that Goldson has also had an influence off the pitch as well as on it. He has been able to provide a leadership figure behind the scenes and play a key role in the dressing room, which shows that Rangers recruited a great character as well as a superb player.
