Rangers given transfer advice as Ibrox club urged to snap up Aberdeen star

Rangers hero Kenny Miller believes his former club would be wise in pondering a move for Lewis Ferguson this summer.

The midfielder from Hamilton has been a standout for Aberdeen since his 2018 move to Pittodrie from Accies.

He handed in a transfer request last summer amid Watford interest but stayed put and remained one of the Dons' better players during a calamitous Premiership campaign that ended with a bottom six finish.

His future will be under scrutiny again this summer with Serie A side Caligari one side keeping tabs on the Lanarkshire star.

Hearts have lost John Souttar to Rangers while Ellis Simms - who spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign at Tynecastle on loan from Everton - has also been identified as a target by Miller.

Ferguson is another the former striker reckons should be targeted by Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He told the Sunday Mail: “Even in a really poor season for Aberdeen, he was the one player who kept a decent level of consistency.

“In terms of players Rangers could go for in Scotland after (John) Souttar – Simms and Ferguson would potentially be the two for me because they’re at a really good age.”

Ferguson is currently on Scotland duty, where Steve Clarke's side will face Ukraine on Wednesday in a World Cup play-off semi-final for a chance to play Wales this Sunday and compete for a spot at the winter tournament.
