Rangers fixture change approved as Motherwell chief explains decision to help Ibrox club and makes 'sincerely apologise' statement

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows believes it's 'sensible' to help Scottish clubs in Europe as their match with Rangers is moved forward 24 hours.

The first post-split Premiership fixture for the Steelmen was supposed to be on Sunday, but the champions made a request to the SPFL for this to move.

Sky Sports, Police Scotland and the Fir Park club have now all agreed to shift it forward to Saturday.

Rangers take on RB Leipzig a week on Thursday in their Europa League first leg semi-final.

Motherwell's chief executive supports the call but has apologised for the length of time its taken.

Burrows said: “Based on significant feedback over the years, we believe most of our fans would rather watch a match on a Saturday rather than a Sunday.

"With our only other home fixture after the split being a Wednesday night, that was at the forefront of our thinking.

“In addition, the club believe it sensible to support all Scottish clubs playing in European matches.

“That being said, we would like to sincerely apologise for the length of time taken to make this call and the subsequent lack of notice of the change, which has been largely out with our control.

"We were initially approached on Good Friday, but we were only given confirmation of the change at 3:10pm today (Tuesday 19th).”
