Rangers could suffer ‘knock-on effect’ after PSV at Ibrox

Rangers’ clash with PSV Eindhoven will have a ‘knock-on effect’ over the futures of players such as Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gers are set to take on the Dutch giants in the second-leg of their Champions League play-off at the Phillips Stadion this evening for a place in the group stages of Europe’s elite cup competition.

It’s been a busy summer for Rangers, who have seen key players such as Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo move on following successful periods at the club.

Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has put his own stamp on the first-team squad, though, bringing in several exciting acquisitions like Malick Tillman, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak.

However, there are still lingering doubts over the futures of both Kent and Morelos as their contracts are due to expire in June 2023.

Both players have been linked with moves away from Ibrox throughout the summer after they put in a string of eye-catching performances last season, yet victory on Wednesday could have a big impact on their immediate futures.

If Rangers can get past PSV, then the chance to play in the Champions League group stage would surely appeal massively to Kent and Morelos, potentially persuading them to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Van Bronckhorst’s charges haven’t competed in the group stages of the Champions League since 2010/11 and will be desperate to match Celtic’s achievement by doing so this time around.

And Jones believes tonight’s encounter will be a ‘significant game’ for Rangers and the future of two of their star performers.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It’s a significant game, and there will be a knock-on effect in terms of the expectation they have over players
