Rangers could make 'massive' Golden Boy nominee signing; he's been likened to Kante - journalist

Billy Gilmour ‘would be a massive signing for Rangers‘, journalist Pete O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

Gilmour came through the youth ranks at Rangers before making a move to Chelsea in 2017.

He’s made 22 senior appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit, including two in their Champions League-winning campaign last season.

In the summer, Thomas Tuchel sanctioned a loan move to newly-promoted Norwich City. Gilmour has started 18 of the Canaries’ 34 matches and been named on the bench 10 times. But the loan hasn’t gone as Chelsea would have hoped, with the midfielder subjected to boos from the Norwich faithful amid their struggles.

90Min have reported that another transfer could be on the cards this summer and have named as Rangers as a possible destination.

Even in light of his ‘mixed season’ at Carrow Road, O’Rourke believes that Gilmour is a ‘top, top player’ who could be a real coup for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers.

“He would be a massive signing for Rangers,” he said. “Obviously, Gilmour came through the ranks at Rangers before being lured away to the Premier League by Chelsea as well.

“He is a really talented player. Obviously, he’s gone to Norwich this season and it’s been a bit of a mixed season for him because he’s been in and out of the team. But, I think, on his day he has proved that, for Scotland, he’s a top, top player.”

Gilmour’s stock may have fallen this term, but he shouldn’t be written off.

It’s worth stressing that Norwich City are, statistically, the worst team in the division, already relegated with four games to spare after picking up just five wins. The circumstances aren’t conducive to success.
