Rangers: £33k-a-week star ‘will be fired up’ for Napoli at Ibrox

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will be ‘fired up’ to improve his side’s fortunes and re-establish himself as a ‘key figure’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old has been a peripheral figure in the opening weeks of the season but could be recalled by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst following the Gers’ recent struggles.

Morelos was a surprise omission from Rangers’ matchday squad when they travelled to Eindhoven to take on PSV in the second-leg of their Champions League play-off last month.

Van Bronckhorst questioned the Colombia international’s fitness levels and attitudes prior to their crucial encounter but insisted that he ‘still has a future’ at the club in the aftermath of their victory.

“I sat down with him before we went to Eindhoven and I said before in a press conference that Alfredo, if he wants to come back, needs to do things differently, and that is what he is doing at the moment,” said the 47-year-old tactician.

“For me, it is the case of sitting with him in the next days and talk to him about his future. But he still has a future with us, he is still a Rangers player.”

Morelos has only played 30 minutes since that memorable night at the Philips Stadion yet could be relied upon to provide an additional attacking threat when Napoli visit Ibrox.

Jones believes reintroducing Morelos is ‘worth a go’ for Van Bronckhorst, who will ‘expect a reaction’ from the South American should he be granted an opportunity to impress.
