Ralf Rangnick reveals he blocked Anthony Elanga from leaving Manchester United on loan

Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he stopped Anthony Elanga from leaving Manchester United on loan and says he watched YouTube highlights of the winger during his first week as manager.

The 19-year-old scored his first Premier league goal of the season and United’s opener in the 3-1 victory over Brentford on Wednesday evening.

And Rangnick admits he’s been impressed by the Swedish winger since he arrived at United.

‘I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up,’ Rangnick told BBC Sport.

‘l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good.

‘He was almost on his way out on loan, I told him you will not go out on loan, you will say here. He has developed in training.’

Elanga, meanwhile, paid tribute to Rangnick for the impact he has made since taking charge of United.

‘I appreciate the boss so much and you can see in training, the intensity, how much we are running,’ said Elanga.

‘If you put the work in, you’ll get rewards in games and that’s what I want to try and do every day; try to work hard and train the way I want to play.

‘For me, I love to start for this wonderful club and I want it to continue, but I’ve got to put the work in during training and then when I get the opportunity out on the pitch, [I have to] take it.

‘It is my second start of the season, and hopefully it is the second of many. I just need to keep pushing.’
