Rahm draws level with Thompson at American Express
Jon Rahm and Davis Thompson are tied in their duel heading into the final round of the American Express at La Quinta County Club in California.
The World No. 4, in scintillating form and seeking a fourth win in six tournaments, posted a third round 65 to climb to 23-under par.
It could have been better for the Spaniard who hit the front after rattling in eight birdies in the opening 12 holes, however he stumbled in the final stretch, his putting touch deserting him, a three-putt bogey on 17 leaving him with a round of 65.
Rahm's late fade allowed overnight leader Thompson to keep pace with Rahm. The PGA Tour rookie was five-under thru 12, playing the more testing final six holes in even par, a birdie on the par-5 16th cancelling out a bogey on 14.
The leading pair are four shots clear of the rest of the field, Christian Bezuidenhout and JT Poston on 19-under.
Sam Burns is part of the cluster of players on 18-under, while Masters champions and World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is a shot further back in a tie for ninth.
