Rabada surpasses Steyn as SA's highest wicket-taker at IPL

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada became South Africa's highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL), surpassing former great Dale Steyn.

On Monday, Rabada managed to take a sole wicket for the Punjab Kings as they lost by 17 runs against the Delhi Capitals.

Former Proteas fast bowling legend Dale Steyn played 95 games in the Indian Premier League and bagged 97 wickets at an average of 25.9.

Rabada took one for 24 in his three overs as he captured the wicket of Australia's Mitchell Marsh, who top-scored with 63 off 48 balls.

The South African went on to take his IPL wicket tally to 98 wickets in his 62nd IPL game and become the country's highest wicket-taker in the lucrative T20 tournament.

Rabada has played in every IPL tournament since his debut appearance in 2017, representing the Delhi Capitals.

He was then bought by the Punjab Kings this year.

Rabada has bagged 22 wickets in just 12 games at this year's edition and is the third-highest wicket-taker of the season so far.

Overall, Rabada has captured 98 wickets in the IPL in just 62 games and is two wickets away from 100 wickets.

The Punjab Kings have one more IPL game remaining and are currently seventh on the standings and are on 12 points.

Rabada needs just the double in Sunday's match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to become the fastest bowler in the tournament to achieve the significant milestone.

Former Mumbai Indians pacer Lasith Malinga holds the record of achieving 100 wickets in just 70 matches.

Rabada has eight innings to break the record and potentially become the 18th bowler to pick up 100 wickets in the IPL.

98* - Kagiso Rabada

97 - Dale Steyn

95 - Chris Morris

Fastest to 100 IPL wickets:
