QPR player attracting Championship transfer interest
Queens Park Rangers defender Yoann Barbet is being tracked by multiple Championship clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, according to West London Sport.
The 28-year-old is one of a number of Hoops individuals whose contract expires at the end of the season, as well as Moses Odubajo, Charlie Austin and multiple others.
It is the Frenchman though that is attracting significant interest from other clubs who are looking to get a potential bargain in the off-season.
Barbet arrived at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in 2019 from QPR’s west London rivals Brentford and has played 113 Championship matches for the R’s since then, including 40 times in the current campaign – even skippering the club on occasions.
He could be set for an exit from the Hoops in the coming months though with interest from QPR’s league rivals, whilst a return to his native France has also not been ruled out.
It has been reported that Barbet is happy to stay at the club, but there is no indication that he will be offered a new deal in the coming weeks as the season comes to its conclusion.
The Verdict
Barbet has been solid and dependable for the most part for QPR this season – so it doesn’t make sense that they wouldn’t want to offer him a new deal.
At 28 years old, it’s not like Barbet is now over the hill and he should still be pretty much in his prime years.
Next to Rob Dickie and Jimmy Dunne, Barbet is part of a trio that could potentially be the back-line at the club for years to come.
However it appears that some have other ideas and if Barbet ends up at another Championship club this summer then it could be a loss that QPR regret.
