Proteas women look to keep things simple for success in NZ: 'We want to win a World Cup'

Proteas all-rounder Chloe Tryon says South Africa are looking to keep things simple and take more responsibility ahead of next week's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

The Proteas women have been in New Zealand for two weeks and have two warm-up games in preparation for the tournament, set to start next Friday, 4 March.

South Africa come off a 2-1 ODI series triumph against the West Indies, which saw them record their fifth-consecutive ODI series win. 

The Proteas, who are second in the ICC Women's ODI team rankings, head to the World Cup as serious contenders, hoping to avenge their 2017 World Cup semi-final loss against England.

Tryon, who is vice-captain of the side under skipper Sune Luus, says the Proteas are looking to tick all the boxes and make history in New Zealand.

"I don't think we have to do much, just keep things simple. We have to look at this as another game," said Tryon in a CSA video.

"Obviously, it's important, but we have to make sure that we tick off all the boxes. We've been close and it's been disappointing. We can see the desire everyone has in the team.

"We want to win a World Cup and I think being in the situation will be a bit different. We are kind of used to it now, but it's just about taking the next step and taking more responsibility."

No senior South African cricket team has ever made the final of a World Cup in either T20 or ODI formats, and this year, the women have that hunger and form to get over the line.

Tryon admits that it'll mean a lot to Hilton Moreeng's side to win the trophy and help break the Proteas' ICC World Cup drought.
