Proteas thrashed in final T20 against Windies, lose series 3-0

The Proteas were walloped in the third and final T20 against the West Indies on Sunday, going down by eight wickets to lose the series 3-0.

If there are any positives for the South Africans to take from this series, the biggest one is surely that the bulk of their T20 World Cup squad was missing due to IPL duty.

Still, the form of players like Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee and Quinton de Kock will be a concern.

Nortje, especially, is struggling, and that was the case once more in this affair as he was taken for 26 runs in two disappointing overs.

Stand-in skipper Rassie van der Dussen, who won the toss and opted to bat first, scored a gutsy 51 (31) to help the Proteas recover from 50/4 to posting a competitive yet modest 163/7.

Wiaan Mulder (36 off 28) also made a valuable contribution.

But any hopes the Proteas had at the innings break were soon dashed as opener Johnson Charles (69 off 26) blasted Coetzee for 23 in one over and took the game away.

There was no coming back for the Proteas, who were finally knocked out with just 13.5 overs bowled.
