Proteas skipper left head-scratching after inexplicable ODI series capitulation against the Tigers

Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma said he was still scratching his head as to why their ODI series capitulation against Bangladesh was meek.

In losing their first-ever ODI series at home against the Tigers, the Proteas were also belted by nine-wickets in the third ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Bavuma had a rare quiet series where scores of 31, 37 and 2 also highlighted the dip in the Proteas' performance.

The skipper said their unexplained dip in their performances could have been down to them not sticking to the processes that have been working for them.

"There was a lot of confidence and belief coming from us after the India series," Bavuma said.

"It could have been a case of us not respecting the processes that we put in place that allowed the positive results to come about and expecting things to go our way.

"That's what's at the top of my head and it's a question I'll still need to ask myself and one that'll stay relevant through the tour."

The Proteas' batting came under fire from both pace and spin against Bangladesh. Where a team effort in the first ODI pegged them back, Taskin Ahmed's 5/35 was the knockout blow they could not recover from in the third ODI.

Bavuma said their shot selection let them down in the third ODI that was easily wrapped up by the visitors.

"Intent is a big word and revolves around having more clarity in what we're trying to do and backing that 100 percent," Bavuma said.

"The intent was lacking in terms of not backing our plans and not executing them. If I look at our dismissals, there were a lot of soft ones.

"There were too many in our top order and such situations will make it difficult for our top-order to put on a competitive score."
