Proteas shrug off loss of bowling guru Langeveldt to Covid and accident: 'Wishing him well'

You just get well, we'll be fine.

That, in a nutshell, was the message from Sarel Erwee and his Proteas team-mates to their bowling coach, Charl Langeveldt, who is back at home in Cape Town.

Langeveldt had to leave the national team's camp just before the current second Test against Bangladesh at St George's Park commenced after testing positive for Covid-19.

To add insult to injury, Langeveldt and Zunaid Wadee, the Proteas' security manager who had also returned a positive test, drove together back to the city and were involved in an accident close to the city.

Cricket South Africa though confirmed that both men were fine.

"Obviously we've got experienced guys in our team," said opener Erwee, who top scored with 41 in SA's second innings of 176/6 declared.

"We've also got experienced coaches as well. Everybody shares a bit of knowledge amongst each other, especially the bowling unit."

That dynamic has been evident in this Test, with the South African attack as a whole functioning well in putting the side in sight of a 2-0 series whitewash.

"Yes, we are obviously missing our bowling coach and we just wish him well," said Erwee.

"We've got other guys helping out and it's working so far."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have also been missing head coach Russell Domingo, who's also been laid low by the virus.

He too is recuperating well.
