Proteas pacer Nortje worries about rain as India challenge looms: We must take wins as they come

Proteas pacer Anrich Nortje said they need to make the most of any big win that comes their way as rain dogs the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rain isn't forecast for South Africa's clash against India in Perth on Sunday, but further south in the state of Victoria, the elements have had the final say.

Friday's matches between Ireland and Afghanistan and England and Australia that were scheduled to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were washed out.

That left Group one delicately poised while Group two, despite the Proteas having their game against Zimbabwe neutered by rain, has a bit more direction.

Perth hasn't been as badly affected by the weather as compared to Sydney and Melbourne, but Nortje said they had the responsibility of keeping their winning end of the bargain.

The Proteas are second in Group two and stand a chance of topping the table if they beat a very strong Indian side at the Optus Stadium.

"There are possibilities of games getting rained out and possibilities of this and that happening," Nortje said.

"We could go through, or we could win all of our games and that makes things simple where you know what to do on a day-by-day basis to make it easier for ourselves

"We have to take victories as they come because we can't bank on another game being rained out next week to get through.

"When we have the opportunity to get a big win and get the net run rate up, we have to do so as soon as possible."

Nortje is also banking on the momentum the team has created for itself in the past two seasons in the shortest format.
