Prospect of Katie Taylor-Chantelle Cameron rematch thrown into doubt

Katie Taylor's world championship rematch with Chantelle Cameron may be in jeopardy, with the challenger claiming that Taylor is seeking to 'avoid' the bout.

In February, Cameron said that the third installment of her light welterweight saga with Taylor had been pencilled in for 25 May in the 3Arena in Dublin's docklands, though Taylor's camp were quick to confirm to RTÉ afterwards that nothing had been agreed.

Last night, Cameron claimed in a social media post that the fight may not now happen and that Taylor is seeking out other possible opponents for that date.

"Just an update on talks with the Katie fight. I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially as this was what I was told was the hold up from the fight being agreed," Cameron wrote on Instagram.

"The reason is because I wanted to create my own legacy.

"Now it looks like Katie will take a 'keep busy' fight and avoid me as I think she knows that certain things that went her way in the last fight won't happen again.

"Sorry to the actual boxing fans who wanted to see this fight but the trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me."

Cameron, from Northampton, remains the only fighter to have beaten Taylor in the professional ranks, having defeated the Bray woman on points in May last year.

Taylor famously gained revenge in November, getting the nod from the judges and becoming a two-weight world champion.
