Prince Andrew to miss Queen's Jubilee service after testing positive for Covid

Prince Andrew will miss a Jubilee service of thanksgiving after testing positive for Covid. The Duke of York had been set to join the wider royal family at the event in St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday.

However Buckingham Palace confirmed he tested positive for coronavirus and will no longer be at the service. A Palace spokesperson said: “After undertaking a routine test The Duke has tested positive for Covid and with regret will no longer be attending tomorrow’s service.”

The service is set to take place at 11am with Harry and Meghan also both expected to attend. Following this, the Lord Mayor will host a guildhall reception exclusively for the royal family and is scheduled for 12.25pm.

It is understood Andrew saw the Queen in the last few days but has been undertaking regular testing and has not seen her since he tested positive.

The Duke of York, who stepped down from royal duties in the wake of a sex scandal, was expected at the service with all other members of the Royal family. Andrew denied the allegations against him and he later came to an out of court settlement with his accuser. The settlement is not an admission of guilt.

He is the latest in a long line of royals to catch Covid, including the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of Cambridge and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

Princess Michael of Kent, who is married to the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent, suffered severe symptoms when she was struck down with Covid-19 in November 2020.
