Primoz Roglic wins Paris-Nice despite familiar late wobble as brilliant Simon Yates denied

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) had Wout van Aert to thank after his Belgian team-mate dragged him to overall victory at Paris-Nice and spared him from another spectacular final-day collapse. Simon Yates (BikeExchange–Jayco) broke clear on the final climb on Stage 8 as he gamely set about wiping out the Slovenian’s 47-second lead, claiming three bonus seconds and opening up a sizable gap.

It was almost history repeating itself for Roglic, who fell apart on the final day of the 2021 edition as Maximilian Schachmann snatched victory. He also saw the 2020 Tour de France slip from his grasp on the final competitive stage to compatriot Tadej Pogacar.
