Pressure mounts on Sheffield Wednesday ahead of crunch MK Dons clash

Sheffield Wednesday face added pressure ahead of their daunting trip to MK Dons after Sunderland and Wycombe recorded Good Friday victories. A last-gasp winner from Nathan Embleton snatched all three points for Sunderland as they beat Shrewsbury 3-2 - despite surrendering a two-goal lead.

Wycombe and Plymouth Argyle went head to head in a decisive promotion showdown at the Adams Park Stadium. The Chairboys coasted to a 2-0 victory when a draw - or away win - would have been more favourable to Wednesday. Results in League One leave the Owls three points off a playoff place, with a game in hand over Sunderland and two over Wycombe and Plymouth.

However, a tricky test away to high-flyers MK Dons awaits this weekend. Darren Moore’s side faces their sternest test of the run-in as they take on a Championship-bound outfit that have not lost in 15 outings. Defeat would serve as a huge setback for Wednesday - who are on a six-game unbeaten run of their own.

A positive result would set up a huge must-win game against rock-bottom Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night. The next week could make or break Wednesday’s season as the League One promotion race heats up.
