President of France gets involved in PSG and Real Madrid's battle for Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe is yet to make his mind up on where he will play his football next season but there are some very influential figures trying to convince him to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has been widely expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.

However, nothing has been signed or agreed with the Spanish club yet and PSG are doing everything in their power to try and persuade the prolific forward to stay in Paris.

The Ligue 1 giants have reportedly tabled a contract offer which would make Mbappe the highest paid player on the planet, with wages close to £1m-a-week.

The Frenchman had appeared set on the switch to Real Madrid, but that is a serious offer to consider and he is also being wooed by heavyweight politicians in France.

Spanish publication El Mundo report that French President Emmanuel Macron has personally contacted Mbappe in an attempt to convince him to stay in Paris, as had former leader of the country Nicolas Sarkozy.

These interventions are politically motivated, according to the report, with the PSG’s Qatari owners wielding some influence in France and not wanting to suffer the PR blow of Mbappe walking out on the club, especially ahead of the Qatar World Cup later this year.

Mbappe’s future remains unclear, with reports in Spain suggesting Liverpool are even still in the hunt to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

Sport report the Frenchman is ‘attracted’ by a move to Anfield, but the Reds would not be able to offer him anything like the wages PSG have been able to.
