Premier Sports Cup draw LIVE as Aberdeen FC and Hibs lead top flight sides in hat for group stage

The last piece of ticker tape has barely been cleared from the Hampden turf after Saturday's season showpiece and we're already looking to NEXT season.

Celtic lifted the Scottish Cup on top of the Scottish Premiership to complete a domestic double but attention turns to the one that got away and the draw for the Premier Sports Cup.

The Hoops of course, as well as holders Rangers and other teams representing Scotland in Europe next season, won't be in the hat for the group stage draw.

But the likes of last season's beaten finalists Aberdeen and Hibs will learn who they will face when the tournament gets under way in July, while lower league outfits will be hoping for some lucrative ties.

Buckie Thistle have been invited to take part in the tournament by the SPFL - despite being denied the chance to win promotion to Scotland's senior league set-up!

A huge row erupted when the Highland League champions were told by the SFA that they were ineligible to take part in the pyramid promotion play-off due to their lack of a bronze license, which will be required to compete in the top four leagues from 2024/25. As a result, they were unable to take on East Kilbride in the playoff semi-final, with the Lowland League winners advancing to the final where they lost to Stranraer.

But they HAVE been invited to take part in the Premier Sports group stage along with East Kilbride and Brechin City. With only 37 SPFL clubs available to compete in the competition due to the Premiership's top five going into Europe, the league opens its arms to the winners of the Highland and Lowland Leagues as well
