Premier League: The best XI of the season so far based on stats

Earlier this week, we brought you the worst XI of the Premier League season so far.

This was based on WhoScored’s player ratings. The statistical website ranks players each match based on a vast array of metrics.

While we’re in the middle of this winter break with very little Premier League football being played in the last few weeks, we decided now would be the perfect time to reflect on what’s gone before.

The worst XI certainly divided opinion but we like to think the best XI may not upset quite as many people.

We’re probably wrong and will soon be inundated with complaints that their favourite player has been left out.

But blame WhoScored, not us.

By the way, players must have started at least five matches in the league this season.

So, here is the best XI of the Premier League season so far:

Ramsdale started the season on the Arsenal bench behind Bernd Leno but has very much secured his place as the club’s No.1.

The second highest-rated player in the Premier League this season. An impressive 10 assists in 20 league appearances for the Liverpool right-back.

No, not Virgil van Dijk but Matip makes the best starting XI. Liverpool have kept eight clean sheets during his 17 starts in the league.

The oldest outfield player in the Premier League has impressed during his 22 appearances in the league. He’s only missed four matches, showing his importance to this Chelsea side.

What a player. Cancelo has five assists and one goal and has started all but one match this season.

The Chelsea loanee has been magnificent with seven goals and three assists in his 19 matches for Palace.
