Prague is banning late-night bar crawls. What are the alternatives for partygoers?

Famed as much for its nightlife as its stunning architecture, Prague has long been a go-to party destination.

So it came as a shock when officials announced last week that they are cracking down on bar crawls in the vibrant Czech capital.

Guided bar hopping will be banned between 10pm and 6am, stripping the city of one of its rowdiest attractions in the hopes of pacifying weary locals and attracting a higher calibre of tourist.

But as one of Europe’s cheapest capitals for beer, Prague is unlikely to shake its hedonistic image any time soon.

With organised late-night bar crawls off the menu from November, online travel agent Travel Republic has come up with alternative activities for revellers visiting Prague.

The new restrictions only apply to guided tours, which are usually run by tourism companies. Though you may not enjoy the same access to drink deals and entertainment, this means you can still do self-guided bar-hopping.

If you think booze and Google maps sounds like a challenging combination though, there are alternatives. Try booking a guided brewery tour or local craft beer tasting session.

Prague is home to some of Europe’s biggest beer brands, with Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen both offering fun and educational brewery tours in the city.

If you’d rather lounge in a hot tub than learn about brewing processes, Prague’s famous beer spas are for you.

Relax in a warm oak tub infused with vitamin-rich hops, barley and herbs as you pour yourself unlimited pints from a bathside beer tap.

When it’s time for a break, rest on a wheat straw bed as the bath’s extracts absorb into your skin.
