Portsmouth knocked back with approach for 26-year-old midfielder

Lindsay joined Rotherham from Ross County back in the summer of 2019, and has since gone on to make 88 appearances for the Millers, scoring four goals.

However, the midfielder’s contract at the New York Stadium expires at the end of this season, meaning he could leave the club for free in the summer.

Now however, it seems there is interest in securing the services of Lindsay before this month’s transfer window closes.

According to this latest update Portsmouth have now had a bid rejected for Lindsay by Rotherham, but it seems they are not giving up on a deal.

It is claimed that Pompey are preparing another bid for the 26-year-old, and are working over time to secure his services before Monday’s deadline.

Portsmouth currently sit 11th in the League One table, 11 points adrift of the play-offs, and 18 off league leaders Rotherham.

The Verdict

You get the feeling that this is a deal that could make sense for all involved.

Lindsay has struggled for regular game this season, starting just 11 games for Rotherham, meaning you imagine they could cope without him if he was to leave.

As a result, it could be sensible for them to do that now, when they can still receive a fee for him, rather than the midfielder moving on for free at the end of this season when his contract expires.

Portsmouth meanwhile, would be getting a useful midfielder who has proven ability and experience at this level, meaning these circumstances make this feel like one worth pursuing for those in charge at Fratton Park.
