Police rush to Salford following concerns over welfare of a man

Officers rushed to an incident involving a man ‘holding a knife to his neck’ at a local church in Salford. Police were called to Fir Street in Langworthy at around 1:25pm today (June 14) to reports of a concern of welfare for a man.

A cordon was placed on the junction between Fir Street and Jubilee Street while police and ambulance were on the scene before leaving at around 5pm. According to an eye witness the incident involved a man threatening to harm himself with a knife while stood on a vehicle it the car park of the local Emmanuel Church.

Speaking to the MEN the eye witness said: “There’s guy on the car park stood on one of the cars with a knife to his throat and they’ve got negotiators in there trying to get him down. They’ve got a two police vans, police car and paramedic.

Regarding the incident a spokesperson for GMP said “It was a concern for welfare for a male at 1:25pm but has now concluded safely (about 5pm).” NWAS have been contacted for comment.
