Police pull over van drug driver on M6 and find three children sleeping on mattress in the back

Three children were found sleeping in the back of a van after a drug driver was pulled over by police on the motorway.

Police pulled the vehicle over on the M6 in the early hours of Sunday (June 12) after officers said it had been caught speeding. The male driver was found to be under the influence of cannabis by officers at the scene, a police report said.

Following the positive drugs test, a search was carried out of the man's van where three children were found sleeping on a mattress inside. Police said the children were taken to a place of safety and the driver was arrested.

A photo shared by Merseyside Police's roads policing team showed the mattress that was packed tightly into the back of the van. Alongside the photo, officers described the driver as displaying ‘disgraceful behaviour’, reports the ECHO.

A spokesperson from the roads policing team said: "Disgraceful behaviour by the driver of this van; he tested positive for Cannabis after being stopped for speeding on the M6.

"A subsequent search revealed three children sleeping on a mattress in the rear of the van! All children taken to a place of safety & driver #arrested #syn4."
