Police are growing 'increasingly worried' about a missing man at the centre of untrue social media speculation he is linked to an alleged crime. A search for Anthony Clifford, from Tameside, is underway.

Greater Manchester Police have posted an appeal on Facebook asking for help to find him. Officers say there has been untrue speculation he was involved in an alleged crime in recent days. He had no involvement, they added.

The Manchester Evening News has chosen not to repeat the details of those false allegations.

Mr Clifford, police say, is white; in his 30s; of skinny build; has long, dark hair; and has missing teeth. No image has been released.
