Police helicopter captures 'chaos' below after 'hundreds' gather for car meet

Viewed from a police helicopter above, these were some of the reckless actions as a 'car meet' paraded the region's roads. 'Hundreds' were seen gathering in Greater Manchester on Saturday evening (April 27).

Police responded to reports of 'custom motor vehicles' descending on the Snipe Retail Park, in Tameside, for an 'illegal car meet'. The vehicles were turned away by officers - but in scenes described by an eyewitness as 'cat and mouse with the police', the cars were seen heading for Crown Point North, in Denton.

They later headed to Wilmslow Road, in Rusholme, before moving on towards Stockport and into Cheshire. Shortly after 10pm, Cheshire Police received reports of a large number of vehicles gathering near the A34 between Wilmslow and Alderley Edge.

Officers attended the scene and a police helicopter watched proceedings from above. Video footage captured by the helicopter shows a number of cars speeding along the A34, while dozens of people watch on from the side of the road.

One vehicle, a Ford pick-up truck, is then parked up on a roundabout at the A34 - with two occupants seen leaving on foot. Police arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of drug driving following the car meet.

Traffic offence reports (TORS) were issued to two vehicles - one for an illegal number plate and another for its tinted windows and insurance. A further four Section 59 warning notices were issued to motorists for inconsiderate or careless driving, and Cheshire Police says it is reviewing video footage to identify and prosecute others who were in attendance, due to their manner of driving.
