Police descend on Tesco store with area taped off

Two men have been arrested following an attempted burglary at a Salford Tesco store. Officers were called out to the Tesco Express on Liverpool Road, in Irlam, at 4.15am this morning (February 13).

Greater Manchester Police says it received reports of an attempted burglary at the shop. Two men, aged 41 and 24, were arrested by police at the scene.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of burglary, GMP says. They remain in custody for questioning this morning. The shop was closed at the time of the incident.

A window has been boarded up at the front of the store this morning, while an area has been taped off outside. Residents in Irlam and Urmston reported hearing a police helicopter circling above the area in the early hours of the morning.

At least two GMP vans were seen in attendance outside the shop. A GMP spokesperson said: "At 4:15am this morning (Thursday, February 13) we were called to reports of an attempted burglary on Liverpool Road, Irlam.

"Emergency services attended and two men were swiftly arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary." Tesco has been approached for comment.
