Police descend near cemetery after human remains found from historic burial site

Human remains from a historic burial site have been discovered after being disturbed by wildlife in Tameside. A major police operation has been underway at Dukinfield Cemetery and on the surrounding streets since Saturday evening (September 14).

Officers have patrolled the grounds, plus nearby Tower Street and Prospect Road, throughout today (Sunday) while forensics investigators combed the area for evidence. Greater Manchester Police has now confirmed that suspected human remains were found on Park Road, near Dukinfield Cemetery.

Having concluded that the historic remains were disturbed by wildlife, GMP says no criminal investigation will be taking place. Tameside Council says the remains will eventually be returned to their resting place 'sensitively'.
