Plymouth Argyle sign Swansea City striker Morgan Whittaker on season-long loan

Steven Schumacher has completed his fifth Plymouth Argyle summer signing with the arrival of Swansea City striker Morgan Whittaker on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old passed a medical and completed all the paperwork for his deal after travelling to Home Park today. He will compete for a first team place with the Pilgrims' three other forwards - Niall Ennis, Ryan Hardie and Luke Jephcott.

Whittaker, who was also a reported target for Portsmouth, is set to get his first run-out for his new club in their pre-season game against Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Saturday.

Schumacher told Argyle's official club website: "I am delighted that we have signed Morgan on loan from Swansea. Morgan is a very talented young player, who can play either in a front three, or as a striker in a front two. He is left-footed and will bring another quality option to our attacking line this season.

"I’m sure our fans are going to be excited to watch him play, as much as we are excited to work with and coach him every day.”

Whittaker completed an 11-minute hat-trick for Swansea against Argyle in their 4-1 Carabao Cup second round home win last August. That came after he had also scored for the Welsh side in a 2-1 pre-season victory over the Pilgrims at Home Park the previous month.

The former England youth international spent the second half of last term on loan to Lincoln City in League One. He went on to make 17 starts, three substitute appearances and scored five goals.

Whittaker began his career at Derby County but was transferred to Swansea for a fee reported to be around £700,000 on February 1, 2021 on a four-and-a-half-year contract. Since then, Whittaker has played 22 times for the Swans, including six starts, and netted five times.
