Playstation Spartacus: Everything We Know So Far

PlayStation Spartacus is the codename for Sony’s upcoming ‘rival’ to Xbox Game Pass, and here’s everything that we know about the service right now.

Microsoft has found huge success with the subscription-based Game Pass service, giving players the chance to get Day 1 access to a ton of new games as well as titles from EA Games, Ubisoft and more.

Whether PlayStation is able to offer a service up to the level of Game Pass remains to be seen, but it looks like Sony will certainly be trying to disrupt the market again.

Here is everything that we currently know about the PlayStation Spartacus subscription-based service, including the potential reveal date.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier initially reported that the service was in development back in December 2021.

In an update on Friday 25th March 2022 Schreier confirmed that Sony was looking to introduce fans to the new service as early as “next week,” meaning w/c 28th March 2022.

He wrote: “Sony Group Corp. is preparing to introduce a new video game subscription service for the PlayStation as early as next week, said people familiar with the plans.

“The service, which has been in development under the codename Spartacus, is Sony’s answer to Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox Game Pass, a sort of Netflix for video games that has amassed more than 25 million subscribers. Sony’s will debut with a splashy lineup of hit games from recent years, said the people, who requested anonymity because the plans are private.”

It is worth noting that leaks have stated that Day 1 releases of games on the service are not currently being considered by Sony.
