Play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday told exactly what to expect from struggling Crewe Alexandra

Alex Morris has challenged his Crewe Alexandra players to put in a strong performance against Sheffield Wednesday to dent the Owls' promotion bid. The Railwaymen have already lost their relegation battle but head to Hillsborough tomorrow on the back of a superb come-from-behind win over AFC Wimbledon.

Victory halted an eight-match losing run for Crewe, who are bottom of League One. Interim boss Morris, who succeeded David Artell in the managerial hotseat last week, said: "It (the Wednesday game) is one that has got to whet the players appetite and everybody's at the club to go there.

"What makes it even better is there is something huge on it for them. They are playing for a play-off place so that should encourage us more and give us that greater desire and intensity to our play to try and compete against a team that is going to try and be at full throttle to get the three points with a large crowd behind them.

"All the players should have the aspirations of playing in those sort of stadiums long term every week. We have had it at Portman Road, the Stadium of Light and a few other stadiums, which unfortunately we are not going to get the benefit of feeling next year, but that should be the motivation for them to make sure they bounce back."

It will be a tough ask for Crewe as the Owls have the best home record in the top four tiers of English football. Morris said: "We can't go into the game gung-ho with the same attacking mindset that we showed at home to AFC Wimbledon but what we will do is we will go into the game with a plan that will allow us to get the pitch as often as we can and get the ball into the box to threaten
