Plaid Cymru pulls out of co-operation agreement to support the Welsh Labour government in the Senedd

Plaid Cymru has pulled out of its agreement to support Welsh Labour in the Senedd. The agreement had ensured the Labour group, which has only half of the 60 seats in the chamber, was able to pass its spending plans and could survive any motion of no confidence.

The party entered into the agreement after the 2021 Senedd election and was due to end this winter but Plaid leader Rhun ap Iorwerth has opted to end it early citing concerns over new First Minister Vaughan Gething as the reason.

In a statement, Mr ap Iorwerth said that Plaid was ending the deal early because of the new First Minister's actions. He cited Mr Gething's failure to pay back £200k given to his leadership campaign by a convicted environmental offender, his sacking of junior minister Hannah Blythyn and the decision to delay council tax reform until 2028.
