Pittsburgh Steelers: Reporter names 'likely' starter in Trubisky v Pickett quarterback battle

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler has dropped an important indicator regarding the quarterback battle between Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There wasn’t meant to be much of a ‘quarterback battle’ for the Pittsburgh Steelers this preseason. After signing Mitch Trubisky as a free agent after his stints with the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, he was meant to be the bridge quarterback whilst they sorted out their plans for the future, a future that could have revolved around him if he played well enough.

The first-round draft pick of Kenny Pickett changed that though, as it more or less put a ticking clock on Trubisky under centre for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as it was going to be a matter of when, not if, the rookie would take over the starting role from the veteran.

Pickett has gone a combined 19 of 22 for 171 yards with three touchdowns and no picks, whilst Trubisky has gone 9-15 for 123 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Now this should be tempered by saying that they aren’t facing the same competition, with men having to go up against a combination of first, second, third and even fourth string players whilst also working with different offensive pieces on their own side.

But you can only play what is put in front of you, and when you put both sets of numbers against each other, Pickett looks to be the leader, but with Trubisky’s experience in the league, that might be a deciding factor in the matter when head coach Mike Tomlin makes his decision.

And according to Jeremy
