Pitso's Al Ahly knocked out of Club World Cup by Palmeiras
Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly were knocked out of the Club World Cup after going down 2-0 to Palmeiras of Brazil in their semi-final clash on Tuesday.
Mosimane was without several of his star players due to Afcon where Egypt lost to Senegal in the final after a penalty shootout on Sunday.
Before the game, Mosimane hit out at Fifa for scheduling the competition while Afcon was winding down.
Palmeiras scored just before the end of the first half and four minutes after the start of the second through Raphael Veiga and Dudu respectively, but Al Ahly had a number of chances of their own.
The Egyptian side, making their second consecutive appearance at the tournament has 15 shots on goal with five on target and around 58% of the possession.
They thought they had pulled a goal back but Mohamed Sherif effort was ruled offside.
Palmeiras will now go on to play the winner of the other semi-final between Premier League giants Chelsea or Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
Al Ahly will now contest the bronze medal match between the loser of the other semi-final.
"We have to keep going, we have a medal to play for. It's not all lost," said Mosimane after the match.
"We should try and get a medal for the continent. We have to try more and come again next year and do better."
