Pirates keep pressure on Sundowns, survive late Sekhukhune fightback
Orlando Pirates are keeping up the pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership table as they recorded a 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.
Goals from Deon Hotto and Makhehlene Makhaula guided the Sea Robbers to the win at Peter Mokaba Stadium, while Linda Mntambo scored Sekhukhune's only goal on the night as they fought back strongly in the closing minutes of the match.
Hotto opened the scoring in the 5th minute, while Makhaula scored just three minutes after half-time as Pirates recorded their 11th win of the season to move to 33 points.
They are six points behind Sundowns, who beat SuperSport United 3-0 in the Tshwane derby, but Jose Riviero's charges have a game in hand over Masandawana. The two teams meet on Saturday in what promises to be an epic encounter.
In other matches on the night, Cape Town City and Golden Arrows drew 1-1, while there were no goals in the TS Galaxy and Polokwane City clash, which ended in a goalless draw.
