Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang responds to Piers Morgan over criticism of Arsenal fans

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shut down Piers Morgan’s criticism of his Arsenal exit – and the reaction of ‘gloating’ fans – and insists his move to Barcelona suited all parties.

Minutes before the January transfer deadline, the Gunners agreed to rip up the contract of their then top scorer to allow him to complete a free transfer to Barcelona.

That decision could easily have backfired, particularly with Arsenal having just two senior strikers left at the club and Aubameyang making a blistering start to life at Camp Nou.

But while the Gabon international may be back among the goals at Barca, Arsenal have also thrived in his absence, winning all five of their matches since he left to cement their top-four credentials.

However, Arsenal fan Morgan continues to maintain that it was a mistake to let Aubameyang leave and hit out at his fellow supporters on Twitter after the 32-year-old striker netted in Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Osasuna on Sunday evening.

‘Arsenal fans have spent the past two hours gloating about why we’re so much better without Aubameyang and they’re glad he’s gone,’ Morgan wrote after the Gunners beat Leicester.

‘Meanwhile, he just scored his sixth goal in nine goals for Barcelona, which includes five goals in six La Liga games. I miss you Auba.’

But Aubameyang had no interest in being pitted against Arsenal fans and played down Morgan’s criticism, saying his departure has worked out well for everyone involved.

‘Thanks Piers but sometimes everyone benefits from a separation,’ he responded.

‘Most important is that everyone is happy now. And we had good times that I will [not] forget.’
