Pictures show aftermath of huge heatwave fire in Delamere Forest

These images show the aftermath of a huge heatwave fire at Delamere Forest. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have released photographs showing the effects of the blaze at the Cheshire beauty spot.

The fire broke out on Tuesday evening with crews battling the blaze through the night, CheshireLive reports. Eight fire engines were called to the scene of the incident near Barnsbridge Gates Car Park at around 5.40pm.

The blaze covered a patch of ground measuring approximately 160 square metres and was described as 'deep seated'. It was located in the middle of a wooded area that was 'difficult to access'.

The initial reports from a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A 999 call from a ranger to say there was a fire in Delamere Forest was received by control operators who have mobilised eight fire engines to the scene. The fire involves 40m by 40m of ground and is deep seated."

Crews have spent the day damping down and at around 4pm handed the area back over to forest rangers.

A spokesperson said: "The effected woodland is now fully damped down and no hot spots have been located. Crews are handing over to forest rangers shortly and are now making up equipment." The forest fire was one of several large blazes in the north west over the last two days when the region experienced record-breaking temperatures.
