PICS | 'MultiChoice, PSL exploiters of black people!' - Fans protest against closed stadiums

Passionate South African football supporters took to the streets on Saturday, protesting against the ongoing closure of stadiums ahead of the Soweto Derby at Orlando Stadium.

It also marked the two-year anniversary of the first Covid-19 case in South Africa. The country went into a national lockdown two weeks later, in March 2020.

The gathering was the second protest against the ongoing saga.

Political party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to the streets last month to have their voices heard on the matter, with thousands joining EFF head honcho Julius Malema leading proceedings in Pretoria.

Cricket and rugby fans have been granted access to stadiums and will get to witness live action in the coming months.

A limited amount of tickets for the Proteas' ODI and Test series against Bangladesh have been sold out, while the tickets for the Cape Town leg of the Sevens Rugby World Cup are on sale.

On Saturday, fans burned tires and came with placards outside the stadium to make their feelings known.

One placard said: "MultiChoice & PSL EXPLOITERS OF BLACK PEOPLE. COCONUTS"
