Phillies release Gregorius as Segura returns

The Philadelphia Phillies announced a flurry of roster moves on Thursday with the release of veteran Didi Gregorius the most notable.

The 32-year-old infielder makes way for the return of Jean Segura from the injured list.

The Phillies announce the following transactions: CF Brandon Marsh and RHP Noah Syndergaard have reported to the club. INF Jean Segura has been reinstated from the 60-day IL. RHP Kyle Gibson has been activated from the Bereavement List. INF Didi Gregorius has been released.

Deadline day acquisitions pitcher Noah Syndergaard and outfielder Brandon Marsh have reported to the club, while hurler Kyle Gibson was also activated from the Bereavement List.

A native of Amsterdam, Gregorius appeared in 63 games for the Phillies this season, his third with the team. He was batting .210 with a home run, 19 runs batted in and a .567 OPS.

In his 11th major-league season, Gregorius has appeared in 1,077 games for the Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees and Phillies.

He's a career .257 hitter with 137 HR, 530 RBI and a .728 OPS.

Gregorius was in the second year of a two-year, $28 million deal.
