Perth Glory re-sign Epakis as ALW coach

Perth Glory women's coach Alex Epakis has been rewarded with a one-year contract extension after transforming the team from wooden spooners into serious finals contenders.

Glory failed to win a game in Epakis' first season in charge after the youth-laden outfit struggled to perform in hub life.

But Glory have been one of the surprise packets of the A-League Women season after posting five wins and three draws from their 11 games.

Fifth-placed Glory sit three points adrift of Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United with three rounds remaining.

Glory take on Victory in a crunch clash this Saturday, before finishing off the home-and-away campaign with matches against ladder leaders Sydney FC and last-placed Wellington Phoenix.

Perth have spent all but one game of the season on the road, and Epakis was thrilled to earn a new deal that ties him to the club until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

"I am really passionate about the club and am wholeheartedly invested in the entire playing group and the support staff," Epakis said.

"The opportunity to continue to work alongside a fantastic group of committed players and people is something that really drives me on a daily basis and I am determined to help the group achieve success.

"As a team, we have faced and overcome some difficult moments, but we are focused on a clear vision.

"I am well supported by an excellent staff and together we are committed to ensuring that the team finishes this current season as strongly as possible and to continuing our growth and success into next season."
