Person 'struck by train' on line between Sheffield and Stockport as all services cancelled

A person has been 'struck by a train' causing delays on services between Sheffield and Stockport. The incident happened close to Hathersage, in between the two areas.

As a result, TransPennine announced that all services that run between Sheffield and Stockport would be cancelled as emergency services dealt with the incident. They confirmed that the emergency services were on the tracks as of 3.45pm.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted British Transport Police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service for more information. The condition of the person involved is not yet known.

It is thought the incident occurred this afternoon (Sunday, March 20) at around 3.30pm, with TransPennine Express tweeting that there would be cancellations and delays expected until at least 5pm, as the train was unable to move from its position on the tracks.

Various services, including the 4.32pm from Sheffield to Piccadilly, 4.43pm from Piccadilly to Sheffield and the 5.32pm from Sheffield to Picadilly have all been cancelled as a result, with live updates available online. These are all Northern services.

In a response to a passenger on the train, who tweeted about the incident, TransPennine said: "I'm sorry for the delay to your journey, this train has struck a person sadly at Hathersage. Emergency services are on site at this station and the train is currently unable to move."
