Person 'critical' after major river rescue in Cardiff
A person is in a "critical condition" after being retrieved from the River Taff in Cardiff on Sunday morning, Christmas Eve. A large emergency services presence gathered on Taff Embankment in Grangetown.
South Wales Police said emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.20am after a report of a man seen in the water. He was retrieved and is now in a critical condition in hospital, the force added.
Our reporter at the scene said there were lots of police, fire and ambulance vehicles at around 10am on Taff Embankment, which runs next to the river and was closed from Penarth Road to Blaenclydach Street. There were also emergency vehicles on Penarth Road Bridge, which runs over the river, but traffic could still pass over the bridge. Emergency services left the scene at around 10.15am.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "At around 8.20am today (December 24) emergency services called concerning a report of a male seen in the River Taff. The man was retrieved from the river and has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales in a critical condition."
