Pep Guardiola facing selection dilemma for Man City showdown with Liverpool FC

After Manchester City successfully navigated the first of four A-list games in the space of 11 days, Pep Guardiola's undivided attention will now be on a crucial Premier League meeting with Liverpool on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side visit the Etihad Stadium just a point behind City in the title race, and will provide an altogether different challenge to the one posed by Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Guardiola surprised many with his team selection for the Champions League tie, primarily his decision to drop Phil Foden from his starting line-up. The second-half introduction of the young England star proved to be an inspired substitution, as it was his genius that set up Kevin de Bruyne to break the deadlock.

What role Foden will play against Liverpool is just one of the selection dilemmas that Pep is going to have to mull over during the coming days.

Guardiola had to play around with his back four against Atletico, thanks to the absences of Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker. He opted to shift Joao Cancelo across to right-back and play Nathan Ake on the left, with Aymeric Laporte partnering John Stones at centre-back.

Dias did not train with his teammates ahead of the Atletico game, so it seems extremely unlikely that he will return in time to face Liverpool on Sunday. In his absence, Stones will likely keep his place alongside Laporte. That said, Ake impressed against Atletico and certainly did his chances of minutes no harm.

Walker will be available as his suspension only applied in Europe, so he'll likely come in at right-back as a safe guard against the pace of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Cancelo will likely switch
