Pep Guardiola and Erik ten Hag insider makes prediction on Man City vs Manchester United tactics

Former Bayern Munich II midfielder Tobias Schweinsteiger believes his former manager, Erik ten Hag, can hold his own in the tactical battle against Pep Guardiola in this weekend's Manchester derby.

Manchester City welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, having won five of their opening seven Premier League matches, and are currently unbeaten so far this season. Meanwhile, United have gone on to win their last four successive top-flight clashes after losing their opening two.

The first Manchester derby of the campaign will see Guardiola and Ten Hag clash for the first time in England. It comes nearly a decade after the pair worked together at Bayern Munich in Germany. Ten Hag was in charge of Bayern's second team, while Guardiola was manager of the first team.

There is a strong level of mutual respect between the two managers, and Schweinsteiger — brother of former Reds midfielder Bastian — knows both men well from his time in Germany. He expects an engrossing tactical battle at the Etihad.

"I think the coaches are both quite the same," he told United's official website. "They're both football coaches who are really good at the tactical aspect, have really good impact on the team and are very good at details and at analysing the other teams and finding solutions against them.

"It'll be interesting who plays more football and I was very positive about United's match against Liverpool.
