Pender soars to Puissance win at Dublin Horse Show

Ireland's winning streak at the 2022 Dublin Horse Show continued on Saturday as Kildare’s Mikey Pender claimed his fourth major five-star win of the week in the Land Rover Puissance.

Riding the 15-year-old stallion Hearton Du Bois Halleux, Pender was the only rider to clear the big red wall in the final fifth round at a height of 2m20 (7ft 2 inches).

Daniel Coyle with Just Happy Hero Z and Commandant Geoff Curran with Bishops Quarter (ISH) shared second place, with each picking up four faults in the last round.

Tipperary's Trevor Breen galloped to victory in the 1m50 Dublin Stakes, crossing the line clear in the jump-off in exactly 36 seconds aboard Germaine W. Louth’s Mark McAuley, and Jasco Vd Bisschop took second place in 36.23, while third place went to French rider Megane Moissonnier and Bracadabra in 36.35.

Earlier Sligo's Richard Howley partnered Chinook to victory in the Royal Dublin Society Stakes sponsored by Kilkea Castle 1m45. Derry’s Jordan Coyle and Picador finished as runners-up while third place went to Brazil’s Yuri Mansur and Away Semilly.

The 2022 Dublin Horse Show comes to a close on Sunday following the feature Longines Grand Prix of Ireland.
