Paul Stirling leads Ireland to historic win in Bangladesh

A magnificent 77 from just 41 deliveries from stand-in captain Paul Stirling handed Ireland a deserved seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in the final T20 game between the sides in Chattogram.

It's Ireland's first ever win over the hosts in Bangladesh, however, despite the victory, it is Bangladesh who take the series by two games to one.

Having lost the one day international series 3-0, Ireland will have a small bit of momentum going into next week's one-off Test match.

Bangladesh batted first and were bowled out for just 125 runs in 19.2 overs, with Mark Adair the pick of the Irish attack taking three for 24 off his four overs with Matt Humphries bowling a tidy couple of overs, taking 2 for 10.

In reply Stirling, captaining the side in the absence of the rested Andy Balbirnie, was immediately at his imperious best, reaching his half century off just 31 deliveries.

Stirling was eventually out for 77 within sight of victory as Harry Tector and Curtis Campher saw Ireland over the line for a historic win.

"This was set up by the bowlers and my knock comes from how the bowlers set us up the game for us," said player of the match Stirling.

"Full credit for them to come back from what we have been through over the last two weeks. They deserve all the credit.

"We improve more when we play more. We have been a little slow off the blocks."

Ireland's final game in Bangladesh is the one-off Test match next week, followed by two five day Tests in Sri Lanka.
