Paul Scholes: Man Utd hero answers 18 questions including Haaland vs Mbappe

Paul Scholes has answered 18 quick-fire questions from his former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville for the latest edition of The Overlap.

Scholes, widely regarded as one of the most gifted English footballers in history, famously said very little during his illustrious playing career.

Since hanging up his boots in 2013, though, football fans in the UK and abroad are used to hearing Scholes voice his opinions in his role as a pundit.

Scholes and Neville took a walk around a park in Oldham and the ex-Man Utd star was in top form as he answered various questions.

Here are some of the highlights from their chat:

Favourite band?

“I’m not into music. I’m not arsed. I’m not a music man at all.”

Funniest teammate

“Nicky Butt. Funny, isn’t he? Just look at him and he’ll make you laugh. He did some stupid stuff. Was you in the Old Trafford dressing room when we were playing for the reserves?

“He writes ‘Butt, Butt, Butt’ in a 4-4-2 formation on the whiteboard in permanent marker. He couldn’t get it off!”

What do you look for in a football player?

“Intelligence. Clever players with a brain. Christian Eriksen is a perfect example of a player who plays with his brain.”

Best away stadium you’ve played in?

“I used to love playing at Newcastle and Liverpool. Atmosphere wise and as big as the games were.”

Best goal you’ve ever scored?

“Villa away. I think it was harder than Bradford. Barcelona was a miss-kick. It came off the outside of my foot. But that was my most important goal.”

There was then a funny outtake when Scholes said to Neville: “You ask me a question and I thought ‘right, it’s quick-fire answers’ and then you keep staring at me. They’re quick-fire, crack on!”
